Friendz Sports Bar in East El Paso nods to popular TV sitcom

Friendz Sports Bar, a new sports bar on the East Side, nods to a popular sitcom while hoping to attract regular pals of its own.
The Sports Bar, at 1798 George Dieter Drive off Trawood Drive, features colorful stools, plenty of TV screens, a beer pong table and over 30 draft beers. It is owned by Sabin Marquez, Sergio Flores and Stephen Sepulveda of SSS Entertainment LLC.
A few specialty drinks have fun names that fans of the “Friends” show will recognize. There’s the Hi, I’m Chandler, an apple cocktail with a splash of watermelon; I’ll Be There For You, a fruity drink; the No Uterus, No Opinion, a drunk version of a cherry cola; the Pivot, a blueberry mullet; and how are you ? – otherwise known as an Old Fashioned.
The menu features a variety of bar food, including nachos, burgers, a Buffalo chicken sandwich, wings, and street tacos.
We tried the Bacon Wrapped Poppers ($9.99), a Friendz Chuco Burger ($10.99), and a Buffalo Chicken Sandwich ($10.99). The burger and sandwich come with hand-cut fries.
The jalapeños, nicely wrapped in crispy bacon, came out hot from the kitchen – both in spice and temperature. And every bite oozed delicious melted cheddar and cream cheese.
The burger was grilled with smoked chorizo and contained melted muenster cheese, sautéed onions and was topped with a jalapeño aioli. The fries on the side were perfectly seasoned.
The Buffalo Chicken Sandwich was another winner, with hand-breaded chicken tenders tossed in buffalo sauce and served on Texas toast and topped with muenster cheese.
It would be fun to see a more “friends” touch, like a lounge area in a café similar to where the characters hung out, or maybe even a trivia party.
Still, the bar looks fun, already attracts groups, and with its outdoor terraces, it’s sure to be a fun gathering spot all year round.
