Soon to open in Wynwood, Bottled Blonde will feature 49 TVs for sporting events, then transition to a late-weekend club atmosphere.

There are things you need to live a happy life. Among them, pizzas, beer and a tower of mimosa.

You’ll find all of the above, and more, at the new outdoor Bottled Blonde Pizzeria + Beer Garden, opening later this month in Wynwood.

It will be the first Miami location for the Arizona-based concept of the Evening Entertainment Group, which has restaurants in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth and Scottsdale, Arizona. Two more locations will soon be added in Las Vegas and Nashville.

“We are excited to expand the Bottled Blonde brand into the Miami/Wynwood market,” said Les Corieri, co-founder of Evening Entertainment. “Miami has always been at the top of our list, and we believe our brand aligns perfectly with this beautiful, fun, and fast-paced city.”

Like many Wynwood hotspots, the 9,000-square-foot spot, a hybrid of Italian restaurant and German beer garden, has two personalities. During the day, the 49 TVs and two 24-foot walls of projectors indicate this will be a sports fan‘s dream for college and professional sports as well as UFC bouts.

March 4 – Two former businesses will soon have new life as places to grab a bite to eat or have a drink after the Chattanooga Beer & Wrecker Board approved applications for Mariscos Vallarta at East Brainerd and Boneyard Bar on Station Street.

Mariscos Vallarta will open in the former Shoney’s off Shallowford Village Drive near the Hamilton Place mall, and Boneyard Bar will open in a few months in the former Brinx warehouse on Station Street.

Alexandro Leon told the board during the bid process that Mariscos Vallarta will be a seafood and Mexican grill with a full bar open seven days a week. It will employ 20 people.

Jared Padovani said he and his two Boneyard partners are working to turn the 3,500 square foot location into a “neighborhood bar” with a variety of bar food, snacks and a full bar.

He told the board that he and his partners are aware of some of the issues that have recently made the news regarding the Beer Board and in particular The Blue Light, which has been cited for 10 violations since November. Blue Light is located next to The Comedy Catch and across from Regans and Westbound.

Boneyard will be on the same side of the street as the final two, and Padovani said he and his partners are “taking [security] very seriously.” The site will have a fence at the rear with a separate entrance and a gate and large planters at the front, as well as security guards at both entrances, he said.

Padovani said the space has a capacity of 144 guests and may host live music in the future, but has no plans to do so at this time.

In other business, the board approved beer licenses for two long-running fundraisers, both of which are moving to new locations due to COVID-19.

The Chattanooga Breakfast Rotary Club’s fifth Brew Skies Festival will take place March 12 from noon to 4 p.m. at AT&T Field and will feature 70 craft beers, food and live entertainment with Neon Moon and Over Easy. Weather permitting, vendors will be set up on the outfield warning track.

It had been held at Chattanooga Brewing Co. and Glenn Miller Gardens at Chattanooga Choo Choo.

Also, the Pink! The gala benefiting the CHI Memorial Foundation and the MaryEllen Locher Breast Center will take place on the same day and has moved to the First Horizon Pavilion, Chattanooga Convention Center. The evening will include silent and live auctions, a gourmet dinner and dancing to Party on the Moon.

Recently, multi-talented entertainer and actor Nick Cannon celebrated the grand opening of his Wild ‘N Out Sports Bar and Arcade with a ribbon cutting and a party. Patrons of the recently closed Cider Press Cafe will have to spend the first few months of the new year patiently awaiting the launch of the all-new Cider Press Vegan Gastropub and Patio Bar, which is set to open in St. Pete’s historic Kenwood in just some months.

Co-owner Johan Everstijn told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay that his construction team just broke ground on the new location this week and is building an entire kitchen from scratch. The space at 3118 3rd Ave. N was home to popular gay club Georgie’s Alibi until it closed in 2015.

Although Everstijn and fellow co-owner Roland Strobel were evicted from their old 600 block location after the landlord failed to honor their lease, the duo are taking the opportunity to reinvent Cider Press into something completely different.

“We want to take this time to transform into something more like a late-night hangout,” Everstijn told CL.

With licenses, permits and construction underway, Everstijn says he’s currently in the kitchen working on the upcoming gastropub’s hearty English menu. While popular dishes from the old location, like shrimp po’boys and burgers, will still be offered in the new Kenwood space, the new location’s menu will be new and unexpected.

“The dishes I’m most excited about are the ones I haven’t made yet,” Everstijn laughs. “I want to focus on some entrees where vegetables are the star, but the menu itself will be full of fun, fun dishes.”

He even consulted friends who live in England to really get to grips with that friendly neighborhood pub atmosphere.

You can expect vegan versions of English dishes like Lentil Shepherd’s Pie, Coronation Chicken Salad, Fish and Chips and Chicken Fried Steak on the menu. Cider Press started as an all-raw vegan restaurant in 2016, so its hearty new menu marks significant culinary growth.

While there are no scheduled hours for the new location yet, the focus will be on late-night dining, live entertainment, and a full-service bar stocked with wine, beer and specialty cocktails – brand new territory for Cider Press.

David Fischer, the man behind popular bars St. Pete Cocktail and The Saint, will be responsible for the interior design of the new vegan gastropub.

“Imagine what every vegan restaurant in St. Petersburg looks like…. the new Cider Press will be the opposite of that,” says Everstijn.

Renderings show the 2,275-square-foot restaurant will also feature a small stage inside, which will host a range of entertainment, from karaoke to live music to drag shows. Unfortunately, no live shows will take place on the approximately 400 square foot outdoor patio, due to St. Petersburg’s residential noise ordinance.

Although the interior of Cider Press is Fischer and features “sexy and dim” lighting, many aspects of the gastropub will honor the legacy left by Georgie’s Alibi when it closed in 2015. The gay club was known for their large garage door and their outdoor seating, aspects that will be on full display when the new Cider Press debuts.

According to Everstijn, Georgie’s Alibi was also known for its rotating drink specials like its Tuesday night Long Island iced teas. Cider Press will eventually implement programs that honor the legacy of the now-closed gay club, mimicking some of the popular specialties they previously offered.

There is no doubt that Cider Press Cafe was a mainstay on the 600 block of Central Avenue and one of many local businesses that were evicted due to rapidly rising rent prices.

When asked what he thought Block 600 would look like in a few years, Everstijn replied, “every other door will be a pizzeria, and eventually it might just be empty storefronts. The only people who can pay rent are chains or disguised chains.

Notably, the restaurant that will open at the former Central Avenue location of Cider Press is a Sicilian-style Italian restaurant.

While there is no scheduled opening date in place, the new Cider Press Vegan Gastropub and Patio Bar will debut in the spring of 2022, likely ahead of the St. Pete’s Pride Parade in June.

We must admire the good sense of man. Being a serial restaurateur in today’s unfavorable business climate is like selling umbrellas and raincoats in the current drought. Yet Jim Stump — he of Los Gatos Brewing Company, Forthright Oyster Bar and The Vesper in Campbell, and The Table in Willow Glen — is an opportunist and an optimist.

Stump, who opened the highly anticipated Shepherd & Sims in the former Viva space on Los Gatos Boulevard in September, worked with daughter Janon, son Kyle and SDS NextGen Partners on Lamella Tavern, his new restaurant at the top of the The Table on Lincoln Street. Street. Lamella offers a range of carefully crafted house cocktails accompanied by a raw bar for guests 21 and over.

“There’s really nothing else like it in Willow Glen,” Stump said. “It’s a place where people can have a martini and oysters before dinner and then have dinner at The Table or elsewhere.”

“Lamelle” refers to the vaulted and hatched roof of the restaurant.

“There’s no structure, just a big open space,” Stump says.

Inside there are 40 seats, with another 10 outside on the patio. He describes the appearance as clean and fresh, with beautiful glassware and plates.

Lamella Tavern takes over the 2,000-square-foot location that was once a vegan restaurant called The Source, which closed in June 2020. Stump says it has a full kitchen and huge walk-in closet, as well as a existing bar, but it has no hood.

Two interwoven stories of postponed – and ultimately resumed – barbecue dreams merge in the smoky surroundings of Houston’s newest (and perhaps largest) smoked meat temple.

One of those stories belongs to John Toomey, the owner of the new J-Bar-M barbecue at 2201 Leeland. Toomey, 93, retired from his real estate business Toomey-Guseman, has always been passionate about barbecue. He never stopped thinking about having his own barbecue joint again.

The other story is Willow Villarreal’s quest to reclaim her place in front of a smoker as one of Houston’s top pitmasters. Just months after receiving an enthusiastic 3-star review from Houston Chronicle restaurant reviewer Alison Cook in November 2018, Villarreal was forced to shut down its popular Willow’s Texas BBQ food truck at the Shady Acres Saloon in the Heights. After years of building a dedicated fan base and climbing the ladder of the barbecue hierarchy in Houston, Villarreal’s barbecue dreams seemed to fade like a cloud of oak smoke.

Until now. J-Bar-M Barbecue represents a dramatic reboot in barbecue passions for both the owner and the pitmaster of the new, extremely fine barbecue restaurant which opened at EaDo on Thursday. But J-Bar-M (the name is an interpretation of a traditional Texas iron with initials depicting John Toomey and his late wife Michelene Guseman Toomey), is about to make a splash in this city-loving city. barbecues. The building itself rewrites the notions of look and feel of barbecue restaurants. The sloping-roof rising structure with its cathedral-shaped glass siding is a slick urban construction with giant orbs of luminescent balls hanging from the rafters and a chic and clean interior design, with a functional fireplace, which would make Chip and Joanna Envious Gaines (the work of Context3 Design). The tables are adorned with real flowers inside and the patio area, lit by string lights, includes additional seating, space for special events, a stage for performances and a majestic view of the downtown skyline. city. The 8,330 square foot building has 177 indoor seats and the patio offers 254 additional seats.

The restaurant, which has been planned for years (and also recently hosted one of the culinary challenges of the next season of “Top Chef Houston”), has forged its identity in waves. “He grew organically after every meeting,” said Charles Toomey, John’s grandson who acts as director of operations.

“Our goal was to be different,” said John Toomey, adding that he wanted to create an upscale or elevated barbecue experience with an outdoor garden aesthetic.

For Villarreal, J-Bar-M is a glorious new playground with a state-of-the-art pit hall (he calls it his “office”) fitted with four smokers of staggered 1,000 gallon barrels built by Moberg. Smokers of Dripping Springs and two direct heat smokers for preparing whole pork. It even has a pretty fireplace for making coals. When the pit room is in full swing, Villarreal and his team will be able to smoke 100 breasts at a time.

For the pitmaster, this new venture is the opportunity of a lifetime to get back into the barbecue game following the closure of Willow’s Texas BBQ amid a confusion of the bureaucracy of food truck operations brought in by the city at a time when Villarreal was also struggling with health issues.

“It looked like such a failure. And that was – it didn’t go well, ”he said of his barbecue business which closed in March 2019. The timing, however, was on his side: the same month. , he shook hands with Toomey and was brought to J-Bar-M. team whose opening was delayed by the pandemic.

“I have become quite silent,” he said. “I wondered if people still remembered us.

Villarreal’s longtime barbecue partner, fiancee Jasmine Barela, is also on board as the restaurant’s chef, ensuring the foods and flavors that have earned them allegiance at Willow remain intact. Their barbecue menu is familiar and straightforward: premium post-smoked Villarreal oak beef brisket, pork ribs, turkey, pulled pork and sausage. The barbecue can be served in meat platters, in stuffed baked potatoes, in barbecue sandwiches and by the pound.

Barela’s exquisite accompaniments include charro beans, potato salad, red cabbage salad, collard greens, creamed corn, macaroni and cheese, creamy cauliflower au gratin topped with fried leeks, green beans with bacon and an invigorating pickled tomato salad sprinkled with shallots, basil, and garlic and a pinch of red wine vinegar. She’s also responsible for the menu’s sweet endings: banana pudding, indulgent chocolate ganache pie, lemon ice cream pie topped with meringue built on a ginger cookie crust, and peach cobbler infused with local honey.

“I couldn’t be happier,” Barela said. “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue doing what we love.”
J-Bar-M was built from the ground up in the neighborhood where the Toomey family owned rental properties where John Toomey was sent to collect rents as a young man.
