MURRELLS INLET, SC (WMBF) – A new venture in Murrells Inlet seeks to provide a unique form of entertainment for residents and visitors to the Grand Strand.

Player1UP, an arcade bar located in the former Milardo’s Pizzeria and Sports Pub near Highway 17 Business, is scheduled to open Thursday. It is the franchise’s second location, the first in Rock Hill.

WMBF News got a special sneak peek inside on Sunday ahead of its grand opening. The arcade will feature many old school classics such as Donkey Kong and Pac-Man as well as newer titles.

All of this is combined with pool tables, skeeball and other crowd favorites – including plenty of pinball machines for everyone.

Player1UP will also serve food in addition to its bar. Co-owner Howard Bohrer says he hopes the place can create fun memories for those who stop and visit.

“Just the nostalgia of playing the packman and the Donkey Kongs and all that stuff,” he said. “You know, kids are now playing technical types of games so parents can go, I remember being back when I was a kid. you go to an arcade and you put on a quarter and you play.

Bohrer also mentioned that there are plans for future pinball competitions at Player1UP that could attract more retro players to the Grand Strand.

After putting the finishing touches on a new record, the Davisson Brothers Band will perform at one of their favorite gig stages, the Tractor Bar in Mount Nebo, this Saturday January 15th.

Show time at the Tractor Bar, located at 546 Wilderness Highway, Mount Nebo, WV 26679, is 9-11 p.m. Tickets for the semi-acoustic show are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

And, in addition to the band’s popular hits, attendees might hear a few new tracks from the upcoming third album, which Chris Davisson said was completed on Wednesday at the end of the band’s membership and will now be passed on to producer David Ferguson and co. -producer Brent Cobb to work their magic with an early to mid-2022 release target. “Maybe as early as April,” says Chris Davisson, the band’s lead and rhythm guitarist and one of the songwriters.

The Davisson Brothers Band, hailing from the Harrison County area, also includes vocalist, rhythm guitarist and songwriter Donnie Davisson, brother Chris, longtime drummer Aaron Regester and bassist Gerrod Bee. Although they’ve made many inroads into the music industry over the years – branching out into the Nashville area, making successful forays into Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere, and becoming staples on the music circuit festivals – the group also likes to maintain strong ties to its mountain state heritage. Going on stage at the Tractor Bar on Saturday allows the band members to continue to carry out this mission.

“We go way back with this place and the owner, Steve Brown,” said Chris Davisson, who said he appreciated the support of Brown and many others as the band was in its infancy. “We call it home when we’re in southern West Virginia.”

Saturday’s show will be hip, but stripped down at the same time. “It’s not going to be the big production, the big sound (more normal shows),” Davisson said. “It will be more intimate, more of a one-on-one experience for the fans.”

The Nicholas County gig will follow the band’s conclusion of an agreement with Anthem Entertainment and Old Tom Music Publishing star country music singer and songwriter Chris Janson. The new artist development and co-publishing venture was originally reported by musicrow.com.

The Davissons have a long history with Janson. “We’ve been friends with him for many, many years,” Chris Davisson said. The new partnership is “win-win for everyone”.

The members of the group, like other artists, have taken advantage of the last months of the Covid-19 pandemic to take a breather, pay more attention to family life and … write songs. Since the Davisson Brothers Band normally tours almost every week of the year, Chris said staying closer to home with more frequency meant a period of adjustment.

“The initial success was devastating, because we’re a touring band,” he said. “We were lucky to slow down.” They settled down and pursued projects at home and took on other songwriting endeavors before eventually venturing to outdoor venues.

The pool to choose from for the pending record has over 50 songs deep, and many of the songs are the result of endeavors such as fishing and hunting retreats. “We put a group of songwriting friends in a room and I knew what was going to happen. It was a really fun process.”

“We’re super excited,” Davisson added. “We wanted to make this record our whole career.” The project focuses on “pretty much where we come from, West Virginia and Appalachia.”

The Davisson Brothers Band is managed by Erv Woolsey Co., George Strait’s longtime manager. They made their Top 40 Billboard Country Album debut in 2009 with the eponymous Davisson Brothers Band. In April 2018, the group was named one of Rolling Stone Country’s “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know”. Grammy winner Keith Stegall (Alan Jackson, Zac Brown Band) produced the band’s second album of 2018, Fighter, which featured the “Po’ Boyz.”

The band also enjoyed a No. 1 hit on country radio in Australia, a No. 1 video on CMC, and were invited to perform at CMC Rocks. They wrote and recorded a duet with Australian hit singer Amber Lawrence called “Greatest Show On Earth” via Zoom, a song they say was offered as a message of hope during the pandemic.

DBB recently worked with legendary jam band leader Vince Herman of Leftover Salmon on a songwriting project.

Iowa City has an impressive nightlife scene and a loyal Hawkeyes fan base determined to capitalize on it, making the bars in high demand. A new bar, named Roxxy, opened at 127 E. College St. to answer the call.

The bar, decorated with cassette walls, seeks to celebrate the 80s, 90s and early 2000s.

One of the many things that sets Roxxy apart is his music, said Julia Necker, bartender at Roxxy.

“The music is very different from any other bar in Iowa City, like you go to the bars and hear the same songs, but it’s a bit of a throwback,” Necker said.

Roxxy manager Tetyana Kedyk said the bar offers a bit of variety to the options already available to Iowa City residents. There, the music ranges from disco to pop to classic rock.

Kedyk said the theme was inspired by a bar the owner visited in California.

University of Iowa student Paige Levich said she enjoyed the atmosphere and her time at Roxxy.

“I thought Roxxy was so much fun and the vibe was great,” Levich said. “I feel like karaoke could be fun, they could also have a place for some relaxed live music.”

Roxxy also has branches in Des Moines and Cedar Falls, as well as several sister companies, including The Stuffed Olive and Double Tap. CEO Darren Beck, who Kedyk says opened his first nightclub when he was just 19, has been in the business for over 20 years now.

CLEVELAND – Country music sensation Chase Rice will be opening a new country bar in Cleveland.

Although his name was not mentioned in the press release announcing the opening of the bar, Jason Kipnis tweeted that he was involved in the business with Rice.

The duo are teaming up with Forward Hospitality Group to open “Welcome to the Farm” at Flats East Bank.
