90s-themed Nostalgia bar is coming to Bethpage

Long Islanders can take a trip back a few decades when the ’90s-themed Nostalgia bar and restaurant opens in Bethpage on September 29. This new venue, which takes over the former One Eye Jacks space, will feature a pop culture explosion that will impact the menu, drinks and decor.

“People feel nostalgic these days and crave simpler times. The 90s were such a happy time. There is something magical about it,” says co-owner Costas Themistocleous, 33.

The 1,200 square foot facility, which contains 100 plus an outdoor back patio, is expected to offer an entertainment station where guests can play Nintendo games at the end of the bar as well as arcade cabinets like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Street Fighter. TVs will show movies, cartoons and sitcoms from the 90s while the walls will show various toys and posters from the decade. There will even be a 90s-themed photo area.

“You can select your favorite 90s background to take a photo,” says Themistocleous. “For example, you can make it look like you’re sitting on the sofa in the living room of ‘Full House’. The photo will be printed behind the bar for free.

Other nostalgic features include a trivial ’90s party on Wednesdays at 6 p.m., as well as old-school telephones set up on the wall at tables with familiar voices at the other end.

“You may pick up and hear messages from SpongeBob SquarePants, The Simpsons, or a 90s sitcom character,” says Themistocleous.

Items on the breakfast, lunch and dinner menu tap into the 90s theme, such as Reptar Bites Fried Mac and Cheese (“Rugrats”), Chubbie’s Famous Burger (“Boy Meets World”) and each pizza is named after a ninja turtle.

Signature drinks include Mambo #5 (tequila, orange juice, lime juice, lemon juice, grapefruit juice, topped with salt and orange slices), The Shermanator (vodka, rum, gin, tequila, peach schnapps, pineapple juice, cranberry juice, garnished with a slice of orange) and Semi-Charmed Ice Cream (vodka, lemonade, sweet and sour mix, club soda, garnished with lemon).

“There will be vodka-infused Jell-O shots based on the Power Rangers colors – red, blue, yellow, pink and green,” says Themistocleous. “We’ll even serve The Simpsons Duff Beer.”

Opening weekend kicks off on September 29 with a DJ Throwback Thursday set featuring strictly 90s music and drink specials. A TGIF dance party will follow the following day, September 30. On October 1, the “DZY AFTR MDNT” event will feature live music composed of “forgotten 80s, 90s and early 2000s songs.” Sunday brunch is served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 2.

Tickets ($25 per day, which includes a drink voucher) for the inaugural festivities go on sale Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. via nostalgiali.com (website launches at noon Sept. 1). There’s also a combo ticket available that includes brunch on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for $85 (includes a voucher for one drink per night).
