GURNEE MILLS, Ill. – Marcus Theaters is piloting a new sports entertainment concept near the Wisconsin border at its Marcus Gurnee Mills Theater in Illinois.

According to our partners in Milwaukee Business Journal, the company converted one of its auditoriums into a new sports bar called The Wall and opened it on Thursday.

“I would say it’s an amazingly reinvented sports bar,” Marcus Corp. CEO Greg Marcus told the Milwaukee Business Journal. “We took an auditorium, and we decommissioned it from a cinema auditorium, and we converted it. There are a number of places in the country where you can see sports on a very big screen. We thought we’d start with that.”

The auditorium retains the theater’s main screen, and visitors can watch from one to four sports on the big screen. There are also eight other screens showing other sports entertainment along the aisles.

“You can pretty much see any sport you want to see on a 100-inch screen all the way up to a 40-foot screen,” Marcus said. “The physical auditorium was well laid out. We didn’t have to make any changes to it as it has great viewing angles, and we just supplemented it with lots of screens all around.”

DreamLounger recliners are held in place and there are additional food trays that can be taken directly to visitor seats. The lights will be on halfway.

The Milwaukee Business Journal reports that there is technology that can transmit sound from one of the televisions directly to a visitor’s headphones, so they can listen to another game while watching what’s on the computer. main screen.

The wall has free Wi-Fi for visitors, allowing access to sports betting apps, which is why Marcus Theaters chose the Gurnee location for its pilot. Illinois had already legalized sports betting.

The Wall is free to enter. The company will analyze customer satisfaction to see if The Wall can sell enough food and drink to be profitable, as the location does not charge people to enter.

COVID has changed the way catering premises need to operate, says the development request to expand The Prince hotel in Kirrawee.

“The key to success going forward is space with in particular more dining space, to ensure social distancing and guest comfort, physically and emotionally,” says the DA.

As part of the proposal, an American-Aussie sports bar Huxley and Ugly Pizza, similar to what is at the Highfield Caringbah, will be added.

Feros Hotels director and general manager Chris Feros said he wanted to create “a fun new place” at the Prince.

“It’s going to be a mix of American sports bar and Australian sports bar, plus Ugly Pizza,” he said.

“If you go to Huxley’s Public House in the Highfield Caringbah, you’ll find that the whole middle floor is made up of big screens and open spaces.

Huxley is at Highfield Caringbah.

Huxley is at Highfield Caringbah.

“Down there are a lot of intimate cabins and it’s quite dark.”

The facilities are proposed in a planning application for a new commercial building on the western part of the Princes Highway site.

Mr Feros said the landlord who owns the property bought the adjacent building a few years ago and explored options.

“The new building will be primarily commercial, but the hotel will extend down to the ground floor, creating a fun new experience, which will be a cross between Ugly Pizza and Huxleys,” he said.

The DA says the new building will primarily contain three floors – a ground floor which will be occupied by part of the hotel, with two levels of commercial offices above.

“The new building will be located on the western portion of the site which currently includes ground-level parking and the South Light Industrial Building at 10 Monro Avenue,” the DA said.

“The new building will cover both the Princes Highway and the residual hotel ground level car park.

“No vehicular access is offered for Princes Highway.

“Vehicle access will continue to be from Monro Avenue, although increased for the purposes of the proposed development.

“The proposal represents a balanced planning outcome, taking into account existing controls, site constraints and opportunities, existing development in the locality and the need to consider the amenity of neighboring properties and the locality.

“The proposal will result in a modern extension of the hotel with the provision of commercial offices on the two upper levels and additional space for the hotel on the ground floor.

“The proposal will be a positive addition to the streetscape of Princes Highway, will have no unacceptable impact on adjacent properties and will provide improved facilities and amenities for hotel guests and opportunities for potential commercial tenants on the site.”

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI — A Charlottetown restaurant gets a new identity as it undergoes a facelift and rebranding.

Outriders Cookhouse, which has operated in Sherwood Business Park for nearly a decade, will reopen as Coach’s Sports Bar and Restaurant.

“We came up with a vision to tidy up what used to be here, which was Outriders, and give it a facelift with a new decor downstairs, a new name, a new menu,” said Isaac Pitre, general manager. of Coach’s, during an interview.

“We are in a growing community, and we see it as a place that will continue to grow. In terms of restaurants, there isn’t much here. Boston Pizza and Montana’s are nearby, but many places are either out of town or downtown.

Coaches will be divided into two levels. The lower level will function as a pub-style restaurant for those wishing to have a sit-down meal, socialize with friends or family, and listen to live music. There will also be televisions for those who want to watch the game in a more relaxed environment.

The second level will house Coach’s dedicated sports bar, which will feature TVs, a bar, seating for people to congregate and later hours than the restaurant – remaining open until 12 p.m. every evening.

“If anyone wants to come here, sit at the bar and have beers, they’re welcome. It might be a little louder with the games going on, it’s a different type of crowd. low, it checks the boxes for whoever it is,” Pitre said.

In March 2021, Kent Scales, co-owner of the Olde Dublin Pub, Claddagh Oyster House and The Local, bought Outriders and operated it until December 28 when it was closed for refurbishment.

The restaurant has since been gutted from top to bottom to make way for the new dining room as well as the new upstairs bar.

“It’s going to have the same top-down feel, kind of a rustic industrial feel to tie it to the industrial park,” said Marly Anderson, project manager. “It’s more of a pub vibe, I think. It will be comfortable for whoever enters.

Incorporating this industrial environment around the restaurant, as well as the history of the area, was important when creating the Coach’s brand, Pitre said.

“The name is not only related to sport, but also touches on the history of railways in the region,” he said. “The old Prince Edward Island Railway passed through here. The coach is a transport system and it somehow connects the old railway with the current industrial vibe. It was also a central area where people came to congregate in the community, so we wanted to add a place for people to do just that.

As well as a meaningful brand and pub-style presentation, Pitre said they want to keep things fresh, local and consistent when it comes to their food.

“I find that in Prince Edward Island a lot of people like to support local products, but with the chains a lot of them don’t bring local products like Larkin Farms chicken or MacQuarrie’s Meats , getting it all fresh from the harvest,” he said. “Everything will be fresh and homemade as much as possible,” Anderson added, “so you’re getting something a little higher than typical pub food.”

Both Anderson and Pitre said they want to source as much local produce as possible, including food, drink and even entertainment.

As for Coach’s opening date, Pitre said they’re aiming for mid-to-late February. The restaurant is still under construction, with the lower level of the restaurant largely empty.

Outside of construction, the restaurant is in the process of hiring staff, which they need much more with the new upstairs space.

“It’s just a bigger operation than what’s been here in the past,” Anderson said. “We think we’re going to be pretty busy even with COVID-19. There is a lot of space to spread over the two levels, so we need more staff to open everything.

So far, the response to the change has been positive, and despite creating a new menu and revamping the restaurant as a whole, Pitre said there was one thing they wouldn’t change.

“What will remain the same is the relationship with the customer,” he said. “I know when people came to Outriders they loved it because when they walked in the door people knew their name, and that’s not going to change. We are equally motivated in this aspect. Obviously, there are changes, but it’s up to others to give us a chance.

The Scully Tavern is closing after co-owner Chris Hirsh passed away in September 2021 and his wife, Cass, suffered a debilitating injury a year earlier.

For the Miami Herald

Scully’s Tavern has become a Kendall favorite over the past 32 years, providing locals with everything they wanted in a neighborhood sports bar – and a few things no one thought to ask for.

Owner Chris Hirsh, who had worked at a French restaurant Coral Gables, thought to fill the menu with surprises that caught the attention of celebrity chef Guy Fieri. Belgian snail cooked in garlic butter and served in sautéed mushroom caps. Potato crusted mahi sandwiches. Twice-fried and grilled chicken wings, mixed with garlic scampi.

And plenty of TVs where locals could watch South Florida sports behind an old-fashioned polished wooden bar.

But after a tragic year for the couple who owned the bar, Scully’s has closed its doors for good.

Hirsh died on September 7 after a brief illness and two weeks in hospital, according to a Gofundme started for the family. His death came exactly one year after his wife and restaurant partner Cass fell down a staircase at their home in September 2020 and broke her back, injuring her spine, she told WSVN in October.

“It was the most difficult decision I have ever had to make, especially without my beloved Chris by my side,” Cass Hirsh wrote on December 28 on Scully’s Facebook page. “I am terribly saddened to have to make this announcement, but since Chris passed away and my physical limitations from the accident last year, I have found myself unable to continue.”

Scully’s was the epitome of a mom’s favorite and beloved local pop. This caught the attention of Fieri, who featured the tavern on his “Diners, Drive-ins & Dives” TV show in 2009. He spoke to his large audience about Cass, the former flight attendant, and Chris , a line cook who then went into carpentry, who put all their savings into Scully’s.

“It didn’t sound like much. It’s here in a mall, but they had a plan, ”Fieri says in the episode. “They weren’t going to do it the standard way.”

Scully has everything you would expect. Rock ‘n’ roll bands performing live on weekends. Enough TVs for every sport. And a laid back mom and pop feel that locals couldn’t even get from a Flanigan.

Chris Hirsh has taken it to another level by dressing his kitchen team in chef whites and adding layered flavors to standard dishes. That meant parsley and Parmesan for breading the fish and chip sandwich, Provencal seasonings for the mussels and everything from tartar sauce to house salad croutons.

And everyone in the area was aware of the couple’s pledge to cook free meals on Thanksgiving Eve and Christmas Eve.

But the family restaurant could not withstand consecutive hits. Cass’ fall and recovery were documented by the TV channel: she needed 10 months of intense physical therapy and lost feeling in one hand.

Then, on the anniversary of his fall, Chris Hirsh died of an unspecified illness. He had no medical insurance and Cass was left with growing debt and funeral bills, according to the Gofundme page where the Cassandra L. Hirsh Irrevocable Trust is listed as a beneficiary. the page raised over $ 10,000 towards a goal of $ 100,000.

“It’s been pretty unbearable without him,” Cass Hirsh wrote on Facebook after a memorial in September. “Each day I find it difficult to hold on, but with the outpouring of love, support and kind words, I take a step forward.”
