A brand new sports bar in Swindon the old town opened and was successful in its first weeks of operation.

The Kop Bar, located at 4 Victoria Road, opened its doors to customers on Tuesday 18 October.

Sadik Ali, 53, is the owner of the new bar and got the idea to start it because of his lifelong passion for sports of all kinds.

“I bought the building during the pandemic and decided to open a sports bar. I had run restaurants before, but wanted to follow my personal interest in sports with this,” he said.

The bar takes its name from The Kop stand located at Anfield, Liverpool’s home stadium Soccer Club.

Despite the connotations with the Reds, Mr Ali insisted the bar was open to everyone, regardless of their football allegiance or sporting interest.

“It’s not just about Liverpool, everyone is welcome. Even if you’re a Manchester United, City or Everton fan, we’ll let you in,” Mr Ali joked.

“You don’t have to watch any particular sport here either. If anyone wants to watch football they can watch it downstairs, if anyone wants to watch rugbythey can watch it upstairs and so on.

The bar is adorned with signed sports memorabilia throughout, from signed Tyson Fury boxing gloves downstairs to the framed autographs of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo upstairs, making this a treasure cove for any sports fan.

Screens are also found mainly around the venue with full sports TV and streaming subscriptions including a big screen in the large beer garden meaning customers won’t miss a goal, try or won’t shoot any time soon.

Along with the sports features dotted around the building, the bar offers a wide selection of drinks including Carling and Madri on tap.

Elsewhere, the bar offers guests free sanitary products which are found in the women’s toilets.

The bar is ready to enjoy a busy month ahead with the FIFA World Cup on the horizon and Mr Ali plans to mark the international occasion.

“We’ll be running beer specials to celebrate the World Cup and if anyone wants food during half-time we can sort it out as well,” he said.

The location can still accommodate those not interested in sports with The Kop offering alternative entertainment in addition to big games, fights and matches.

“We are also ready to have live bands and if anyone wants to hire the bar for a corporate event that is also available,” Mr Ali added.

Swindon’s newest addition to the sporting scene has so far received a good response from customers and the team hope this will continue with many customers expected to watch the World Cup at the Kop.

“We are friendly and that’s the atmosphere we want to create here: a friendly, family business,” Mr. Ali concluded.

The bar opens at 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and opens no earlier than 12:00 p.m. on weekends, with the venue often staying open until late as it has a 4:00 a.m. license.
