Strange Town Natural Wine Bar, upcoming shop at 3rd Street Market Hall

Strange Town, the herbal restaurant with a focus on natural wine, will be opening a wine bar and bottle shop in the new downtown 3rd Street Market Hall.

The market hall announced its new supplier on Monday. The venue, 275 W. Wisconsin Ave., has not set an opening date but is expected to open in the next few weeks.

Owner Mia LeTendre said a custom bar where wine by the glass will be poured is being built by Christopher Brooks, and license applications are making their way into city services. She expects Strange Town Bottle Shop to open in late winter or early spring.

“We’ll have a nice little selection by the glass, comparable to what we offer in the restaurant,” LeTendre said by text. Strange Town opened in 2017 at 2101 N. Prospect Ave. Besides its vegan menu, it is known for its selection of all-natural wines and handcrafted cocktails.

Of course, Strange Town Bottle Shop will also sell wine by the bottle to take home with you. All the wines she sells are made with little intervention and the grapes are sustainably grown.

LeTendre, originally from Wisconsin, lived for a time in South Africa, where she began to appreciate the various wine regions of the world. The wines she sells mainly come from small vineyards around the world, including Eastern European countries like Croatia, Slovenia and Georgia.

Along with wine, Strange Town’s stand will sell a few packaged menu favorites to take out, such as its tapenade, salad dressings, and desserts.

Other 3rd Street Market Hall vendors will include Anytime Arepa, Amano Pan, Dawg City, Dairyland Old-Fashioned Hamburgers, Greenhouse, Hot Dish Pantry, Kawa Sushi & Ramen, Make Waves, Middle East Side, Mid-Way Bakery, Paper Plane Pizza, Strega, Supernova and Valor Aquaponics.

The lobby is inside The Avenue, a mix of retail, office and apartment spaces in the former Grand Avenue mall. In addition to food and wine vendors, 3rd Street will have a full 50 seat bar as well as activities such as Topgolf Swing Suite, shuffleboard and pool football.
