Russell, Hogg, Price and Graham among six Scottish players sanctioned for bar visit

SCOTLAND captain Stuart Hogg, Finn Russell (who was dropped to the bench for tomorrow’s game against Ireland), Ali Price, Darcy Graham, Sam Johnson and Sione Tuipulotu have all been the subject of a internal disciplinary proceedings following a visit to an Edinburgh bar. after last Saturday’s victory over Italy, it was reported.

The group was punished after leaving the team hotel after the team returned from Rome. The players were sent back to the team base after Scottish management became aware of their illicit excursion.

“The Scottish management team this week dealt with a post-match case involving six players following the game against Italy last weekend,” said a statement from Scottish Rugby, according to the BBC.

Ireland v Scotland: Townsend bets on the “Blair Switch Project”

“The players involved have been contacted individually and these conversations and results will remain private.

“Preparations for the game against Ireland this week have been good and the whole team is fully focused on delivering a positive result on Saturday.”

Russell has a tumultuous history with the Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend. He missed the first four rounds of the 2020 Six Nations, before the Covid disruption, due to a falling out over whether to have a second beer at the team’s hotel bar on the eve of the start of their pre-tournament training camp, with the standoff making it clear during the very public spat that developed that he felt the problem was deeper than that, and related to issues such as the plan game and the fundamentals of his relationship with the coach.

Tuipulotu was released from the squad and was named on the bench for Glasgow Warriors against Edinburgh tonight [Friday]while Hogg, Graham, Johnson and Price will all start against Ireland tomorrow.

Hogg’s presence on the bar trip is perhaps the biggest concern given his role as captain and his reputation for having tunnel vision when it comes to playing for Scotland.
