Pattaya bar owners plan another letter demanding reopening

Damrongkiat Phinitkarn, secretary of the Entertainment Venue Association in Pattaya, asked me along with bar, pub and nightclub owners to plan their next letter to the Governor of Chonburi asking for the full legal reopening of the city’s nightlife sector.

Pattaya bar owners are planning another letter to the Governor of Chonburi calling for the full legal reopening of the city’s nightlife sector, although the decision is out of his hands.

Damrongkiat Phinitkarn, secretary of the Entertainment Venue Association of Pattaya, chaired a meeting of bar, pub and nightclub owners on April 2.

While most of those gathered have in fact reopened their entertainment venues as ‘restaurants’ through the use of dodgy licenses and ‘ties’ to local authorities, they want all restrictions lifted.

So the group, now calling itself the Pattaya One Voice Coalition, is planning another letter to Chonburi Governor Pakarathorn Thienchai, telling him what he already knows: the bars haven’t been legally open for two years and they have suffered incalculable economic damage.

One Voice Group said it followed all procedures to stay safe by obtaining SHA+ and Covid-Free Setting certifications and providing Covid-19 testing to customers and staff. Now is the time for the government to do its part and stop unfairly targeting the nightlife industry and allow them to reopen.

But the decision is not for Governor Pakarathorn. The best he can do is forward the missive to the Covid-19 Situation Administration Center.

Bar owners in Pattaya are in a state of desperation and want their businesses allowed to open legally as soon as possible.
