Newcastle’s new disco bar opens with a throwback to pop’s heyday
The party hymns, meant to take patrons back to the pre-Covid glory days, marked the launch of a new city bar on Friday.
The Disco Party Bar inside The Gate is full of sinful musical pleasures to savor under the disco ball.
The newcomer promises to recreate the sights and sounds of the seventies, eighties and nineties, then from 2000 onwards with a coming to customers to “see you on the dance floor”.

And it looks like there will be a lot of people too willing to stand up as the news from the bar generated a wave of excitement on his Facebook page, with comments including “this looks ideal for a Christmas party” and “this. sounds like our a little cheesy evening. “
In response to the bar’s invitation to name guilty or not-so-guilty pleasure, one person replied, “Rick Astley, kinda like Rick, real guilty pleasure” while another added a long list in a post that included 70s nightclub, ABBA, 80s Wham, Steps and Backstreet Boys plus Dolly Parton’s 9-5 and added, “I could go on all night ha ha.”
The late bar, which has free entry, is on the ground floor of The Gate in Newcastle, and last month it had teased its mysterious location before the recent big reveal, sparking comments such as “exciting oooooooooh” and “I can’t wait for it to open. I’ll be there”.
