New Sports Bar Opens at Maryland Live, Creates Over 100 County Jobs

HANOVER, MD – A new sports bar opened Thursday at Maryland Live! Casino & Hotel. The $ 15 million site will create more than 100 jobs in Hanover.

Guests can go bowling, play table football or try out the shuffleboard game. The bar has 40 TVs, but the main attraction is the 47-foot big screen.

Under a new sports betting law, customers will soon be able to bet on their favorite team while sipping on a craft beer. The bar, called Maryland Sports and Society, is integrated into the casino floor. This means diners can walk to the slots while they wait for their food.

Patch recently partnered with several local organizations to bring you their latest news. This guest contribution comes from Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce. Here’s what President and CEO Mark Kleinschmidt wrote about the bar:

“The pandemic has created a tremendous slowdown in economic activity[,] But as the vaccination rate rises and the assembly restrictions decrease, we are starting to see very positive signs of an economic rebound. Almost everyone in the House is bracing for increased business volumes in the summer and fall.

While the hospitality industry has perhaps been hit the hardest, it is working very hard to prepare for a rebound. Consumers are also ready to leave their homes. Now[,] they will have an exciting new place to discover: Sports & Social located at Live! Casino-Hotel.

The grand opening of Sports & Social is April 29[,] but I was able to do a backstage tour in advance. The slogan of the new venue is “Raising the Sports Bar” and I have to say that is a perfect description since [it’s] much more than just a sports bar.

The place is great for a sports fan or anyone looking for a great entertainment experience. Let me tell you about my tour.

First, the General Assembly authorized sports betting in Maryland during the General Assembly session that ended on April 12. The new law will allow mobile betting statewide for 60 online sports betting and retail sports betting at casinos, racetracks, professional sports stadiums and 30 more additional brick and mortar facilities. Final rules will hopefully be worked out in time for the fall football season.[,] and life! The Casino-Hotel will be ready [for] the best stadium sports viewing experience in Maryland.

As I made my way to the 212-seat hall, I was drawn to the 100 linear feet of LED screens showing several baseball games, previews of the NFL Draft, and NBA games. The 47ft wide main screen will provide an impressive viewing experience from the various seating options including bar seating, high tops, luxury cabins and multi-level stadium style seating with super comfortable seating .

The … place fits elegantly into the casino space and creates [an] exciting and lively feeling. Live! Casino and Hotel has also gone the extra mile to ensure Sports & Social has incorporated social distancing into layout and operations.

Well you can’t watch a game without a drink or something to eat[,] and Sports & Social offers a wide range of intriguing themed craft cocktails, wines and craft beers. The Classic American Grill menu offers a Maryland take on game day favorites for appetizers, burgers, and some top notch dishes.

Clearly Sport & Social is not just for sports fans but for anyone looking for an entertaining dining experience. The Live! Nachos are great for a little pre-game action and for the main event[,] Steak Tagliata’s Kung Pao Bowl are good bets.

To make the experience of watching a game or having an entertaining dining experience even more unique, Sports & Social has incorporated some outstanding interactive features into the venue. This includes mini bowling alleys with computerized scores and nearby TV screens, so you don’t miss out on any sporting action.

They also have the longest foosball and shuffleboard tables I have ever seen in a sports bar. The casino is perfectly integrated with the Sports & Social site[,] and you have easy access and plenty of possibilities to play slots or try your luck at some table games.

This cutting-edge sports bar concept has proven its worth as Live! has opened similar venues in Atlanta, St. Louis, Texas, Pittsburg and Philadelphia. The design, decor, and tech that went into Sports & Social weren’t cheap at the $ 15 million price tag. The new site will create more than 100 new jobs that will provide additional stimulus to advance the economic recovery.

When sports betting [regulations] are in place, Sports & Social will be ready to leave since they have established a partnership with the FanDuel Group[,] a well-known bookmaker and leader in [the] the growing sports platform industry. Sports & Social will provide the venue for exciting sports viewing[,] and FanDuel will provide the betting infrastructure that will enable an exceptional gaming experience.

So when it’s time to watch the [Ravens’] next big game, the Washington football team or … one of the big annual events like the Super Bowl, March Madness, the Masters or the World Series[,] you will find it on the more than 40 screens of Sports & Social. If you can’t be at the game, this is the place to be. Not only for the hangout location, food and drink, but soon you’ll be able to place a legal bet and really be a part of the action.

I know that seeing is believing[,] and I had the chance to see it before the opening day[,] and you can also by clicking here. I think you will agree that this is a HOME RUN.
