Inside a swanky new-look sports bar home to ‘Hanley’s biggest Friday night outing’

A popular sports bar in Hanley has had its ‘best weekend since Christmas’ after undergoing a chic £250,000 revamp.

The auctioneer, in Percy Street, had been closed since January 17 for overhaul, which was completed last Thursday (January 27) with staff working through the night to open on time.

It has been completely renovated and there is even a new soundproof karaoke booth for rent.

The work included 16 new televisions, a 15ft projector, an upgraded darts area, as well as fresh carpeting, furniture, paint and decor.

Owner Darren Rodgers, 33, of Chell, said: “We opened at 1pm on Thursday – we did, pretty much.

“We had a really good one last weekend. It went really well and we’ve had a lot of inquiries about the karaoke stand, which we’re taking bookings for from next week.

“We had the best weekend we’ve had since Christmas with positive feedback and comments.

“We want to invest in Hanley. It needs better places to open up and we want to revive the town rather than compete with everyone else.”

Darren continued: “It’s been a big investment, but after the weekend we’ve had, it’s going to be positive.

“Employees love it and said it was about time.

“We lost quite a few builders to Covid, so there were five of us down – staff had an all-nighter and came in. I must have spent around £60 on kebabs.

“We’ve finished it and ready to open and we’ve made up the time we lost.”

The bar is now open from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday to Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekends.

Darren added: “We have the biggest Friday night in town.

“We have Motown with DJ JT who’s been here since before I took over.

“Saturday we have a much younger crowd, so we have DJ Mark Goodwin.”
