McIntyre’s Heights location in Houston offers plenty of outdoor seating.

Construction on its next location in Southtown isn’t complete yet, but that’s not stopping sports bar operator McIntyre’s from expanding its footprint in Alamo City.

The Houston-based chain has filed plans with state regulators to open a second location in San Antonio near the North Star mall by Dec. 1.

McIntyre’s will bring its laid-back vibe to a 6,480 square foot space at 86 NE Loop 410, near the intersection of Jones Maltsberger Road, according to details provided to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The chain is known for its cooler-style setting, filled with expansive patios, glass garage doors to accommodate outdoor weather, and multiple TV screens.

While each of the chain’s three Houston locations hosts a resident food truck, the new filing shows plans to build an on-site kitchen at the North Star area outpost.

Plans for a second SA location come after the company announced on Feb. 25 the reopening of the closed Southtown bar’s former location, The Patio, as McIntyre’s.

Construction of the new San Antonio site will begin May 1, according to the state filing.
