Hocus Pocus-themed Halloween pop-up bar returns to Farmingdale

Halloween comes early to Main Street in Farmingdale as the Witch Craft Halloween Pop-Up experience returns for its third year from September 20. The family theme will once again focus on the Disney movie “Hocus Pocus.”

“‘Hocus Pocus’ is an age-old classic that ’90s kids can enjoy from childhood and share with any kids they may have,” says Michael Marra, president of Unique Social Events. “It’s not a scary experience. Children of all ages are welcome.”

The room’s decor will be floor-to-ceiling with Halloween lights, replica movie props like the Magic Spell Book, witch’s broomsticks, and black flame candles. Guests will even come face to face with the Sanderson sisters, Winnie, Mary and Sarah, as well as zombie Billy Butcherson.

“They perform sketches from the film coupled with songs, then interact individually with each table,” says Marra. “Characters will take photos with everyone at multiple shooting locations, including a witch graveyard with the event logo.”

A full Italian menu ranging from traditional to modern is served with a wide range of selections. Appetizers include cranberry barbecue meatballs ($16) and harvest flatbread with prosciutto, arugula, figs and goat cheese with a balsamic reduction ($18). Appetizers are on the menu like pumpkin ravioli ($25), vodka chicken ($32), and Tuscan shrimp with sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, and asparagus in a garlic buttercream sauce with mashed potatoes. garlic potatoes ($35). Desserts ($8 to $12) are themed around the fall season, such as pumpkin pie, cinnamon apple pie and “The Book Brownie” – a chocolate covered brownie that evokes the Magic Spell Book of “Hocus Pocus”.

“The drinks are named after the three witches in the film and the colors match their hair color,” Marra explains. “They come out with dry ice which adds a smoky look as if it’s in motion.”

The Winnie is orange in color with passion fruit infused vodka with lemonade and orange curacao. The Mary is a shade of purple and made with a mix of rum sangria plus a top float of blueberry tea and blue curacao. The Sarah is tinted yellow with passion fruit vodka, lime juice and ginger beer. All are $15.

Then there’s the Witch’s Brew for Two, which is served in a witch’s cauldron with a green neon glow and smoke effect made with rum, a variety of melon liqueurs and punch ($38).

“We want people to experience all the senses and elements, from visuals to taste to entertainment,” says Marra. “Everyone is encouraged to dress up and make it their own Halloween party.”
