Good Dog Park & Bar set to join Auburn last week of March
AUBURN, Ala. (WRBL)— The one stop shop for all dog owners is coming to Auburn soon; Good Dog Park & Bar to provide entertainment for you and your furry friend.
Good Dog Park & Bar is a fairly new concept to join Alabama, combining two social landscapes for humans and their furry counterparts. The off-leash, grassy dog park and bar offers indoor and outdoor play areas, a separate area for small dogs, dog daycare, boarding, and swimming.
In addition to adding different landscapes to the plains, Good Dog Park & Bar’s Auburn location donates 1% of sales to Storybook Farms and the Lee County Humane Society.
For humans, the park and bar will offer a variety of drinks, and local food trucks will also frequent the place.
Operations Manager Bobby Morgan shared with News 3 all of the options that will be available at the park.
“We will only be offering cans, so it will be beer seltzers. We will also have wine options, and we will have non-alcoholic choices. We will have Lacroix, Coca products, water. We’ll even try to do maybe cold brew coffee just so that depending on the time of day you can have a little caffeine if you want,” says Morgan.
The 16,000 square foot park and bar is located at 203 East University Drive, Pet Palace’s previous location, adjacent to Max Fitness and Auburn University Credit Union.
The goal of the membership-based dog park is to create a premium park where people can congregate in a safe place. Prior to entry, all incoming dogs are required to show their current vaccination status. Co-owner Clint Carmichael explains what he does to keep all visitors safe.
“Safety is the number one goal at Good Dog and so we take vaccinations and everything very seriously. And so we require all your dogs to be vaccinated…we just want people to know because safety comes first says Carmichael.
The park also includes Bark Rangers, trained dog handlers, to ensure the park remains safe and clean. For pet owners who are not ready to enter the off-leash area, there will also be an off-leash area to acclimate dogs to the park.
Carmichael also added how Auburn is a natural fit for the park, citing many personal ties to the area from their Birmingham-based sister company, The Pawms Pet Resort.
“A lot of people in Birmingham went to Auburn and grew up going to Auburn, or Auburn fans and so Auburn was just a natural place. Andy, the manager of Pawms Pet Resort, went to Auburn, so he wanted to come back here to a town he loves. And that’s why we chose Auburn,” Carmichael quotes.
Operations Manager Bobby Morgan explains why he thinks Auburn is the perfect place.
“Auburn is a great city for, you know, people coming together. It’s very communal. So I feel like this is a perfect opportunity for people to get out of the normal downtown hangout areas and things like that and explore a new experience,” Morgan shares.
Memberships are offered annually or monthly, non-members must purchase a day pass for $10 plus an additional $5 per dog. Those without a dog are allowed entry at no additional cost.
Although the park is new to Auburn, it is not exclusive to the Plains. Memberships are good for three of their other promising sites in Birmingham, Tuscaloosa and Huntsville.
Morgan explains what his goal is for the park and why he thinks the combination of experiences on offer will benefit people, with or without their furry counterparts.
“Dogs have a completely different experience of it. We have been to some similar dog park like environments like this. And the whole time you’re there, you might not have a dog with you, but it’s hard not to smile and laugh all the time because you have dogs running towards you and wanting player. So it’s just pure entertainment all the time and it’s just a relaxing environment. It gives people a way to relax, have a drink if they want, and just enjoy the dogs,” says Morgan.
