Ferndale Loving Touch Bar Hosts Pre-Thanksgiving Sober Party
The eve of Thanksgiving is such a popular time to go out for drinks and bar hopping that it’s often called “lover’s night.”
A Ferndale hotspot offers an alternative. On November 23, the Loving Touch Bar and Concert Hall will clear the bar’s shelves of all alcohol for a “Sober Party.”
Instead, the LT will serve craft $5 mocktails — expect Orange Moscow Mules, virgin margaritas and other concoctions — as well as mocktail beers and other drinks like Faygo and Red Bull.
DJ Mahled will be spinning an eclectic variety of party tunes, and people of all ages are also welcome. (If you’re looking for a fun place to take your favorite 20-year-old home from college for the week, this is a great option.)
So why take what is arguably the biggest bar night of the year and put all the booze aside?
“Bars can be a very difficult setting for those who have trouble staying sober – and for those who find a group of drunk people unpleasant,” Loving Touch general manager Jesse Shepherd-Bates said. “It’s unfamiliar territory for us to plan a low-key night out at the bar, but as the idea has evolved, it’s getting really exciting.”
Shepherd-Bates said the idea for Sober Party came about at the suggestion of a staff member who was about to celebrate a year of sobriety. Chris Johnston, one of the owners of Loving Touch, suggested having it around Thanksgiving and Shepherd-Bates focused on having it on November 23.
“Thanksgiving eve is traditionally a huge drinking night, with people heading home to the bar not only to socialize, but also to get a break from what can be hectic family gatherings,” he said. he declared.
Doors open at 9 p.m. for Sober Party and admission is $5. Loving Touch is at 22634 Woodward in Ferndale. Call (248) 820-5596 or visit thelovingtouchferndale.com.
