Dangdut Diva Inul Daratista Fires Over 1,000 Karaoke Bar Employees Due to COVID-19
Inul Vizta, owned by famous diva dangdut Inul Daratista, has long been the go-to karaoke bar chain for many Indonesians. However, as Indonesia enters the eighth month of the COVID-19 pandemic, Inul announced this week that it has had to lay off more than a thousand of its employees.
Like many businesses in the capital, Inul said his business has been hit hard financially due to limitations imposed by Large Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) in the Greater Jakarta region.
As karaoke bars have had very few sales since March, Inul said she had to lay off at least 1,000 Inul Vizta employees in Jakarta.
“There are more than 20 Inul Vizta outlets in Jakarta. I had to fire everyone in Jakarta. I apologize “, Inul told reporters.
“Because it’s been over eight months, I hope you all understand. A point of sale could have up to 75 employees.
Inul Vizta outlets outside of Jakarta appear to have been more successful, due to the different regulations set by regional governments and the fact that many lifestyle and entertainment companies in other provinces of Indonesia have reopened.
“No one is made redundant in other regions. They may have been put on unpaid leave, but they have returned to work, ”said Inul.
Inul said she was forced to make the difficult decision after having to pay salaries out of her own pocket since the start of the pandemic.
